Yoda Cafe Avalon

Relaxed eatery with an asian vibe to its food. Good family destination, great for casual eating. The decor is unusual eg all the chairs are different, the cultery is in a tin can on the table and the water is served in a steel cup (it made my fillings tingle).
The eating space is long and narrow, red walls and a concrete floor. The place was busy and full; surprisingly the noise level was not too bad. The service is friendly but a bit chaotic, it took a while to get menus and we had a few different people serving us but it was all good.
This is one place which I recommend booking for dinner. They were turning away couple after couple the night we were there. This was slightly annoying as we were near the door which kept opening and sending a cold blast of air down my back. Highly recommend not sitting near the door on a cold night.
The food is well priced with a generous portion sizes. Most dishes are around the $15 mark and desserts $10. There is a wine list, with beers around $6 and cider $8. The two dishes I tried were the Red Curry which was a joint of duck in a curry sauce. Not too spicy and the flavours were interesting. Make sure you order some rice with this. The BBQ short ribs with tarmarind sauce was a nice size portion of beef. Very tender and crispy outside.
The creme brulee to finish was served in a deep bowl with a thick caramelised crust - just how I like it.
Cost for 2 without drinks: $45
