Starfish in Avalon - Dinner

Finally made it to a evening dinner at Starfish, see my other brunch review here. Located near the beach end of Avalon Parade on the Southen side. It is a large and spacious restaurant with plenty of room between tables. It was a cold Spring night and the table near the door was not the best choice. Try to get the table against the Eastern wall, it has soft lounge cushions on one side. On matters table my table was wonky and needed both my feet resting on the legs for stability. The food here is very well presented, tasty and comes in large portions. I ordered a side dish with my lamb and didn’t need it. There are seven mains and seven entrees, mains and five desserts to choose from, including a vegetarian tofu option for the entree and main. The specials blackboard had three extra choices. There is a good seafood selection as the name of the restaurant might suggest. There is a good selection of wines and drinks.

The waitresses are friendly and attentive. Very welcoming on the way in, drinks list brought to the table promptly, checking on the meal and on the ball. One also ate in the restaurant on her break. I always think this is a good sign.

The lamb was suggested by the waitress as best to be medium rare. It was Grilled Cootamundra lamb fillet, smokey eggplant puree, pomegranate, herbs, with goat cheese. It was perfect with some surprising pomegranate seeds to add some sweetness. The other dish was Grilled Spencer Gulf King Prawns with Chilli Lime and peanut dressing with pickled green paw paw salad. The prawns were large and delicious with a zesty asian noodle mix. There was a hint of chilli, but not too much.

The desserts we tried were the chocolate soft centred pudding and date and ginger pudding. Both were first class. I love how the chocolate sauce poured out of the pudding when you cut into the centre. The vanilla ice cream accompaniment was perfect. Overall this restaurant is in the upper echelon of restaurants in Avalon. A place to go for a very enjoyable evening.
