Bistro Boulevard
New and very popular.
This is the reincarnation of Le Boulevard. (see my previous review here)
It opened on 14 April 2012 by a young couple, the previous owner's daughter and son-in-law. They are doing great business and it is difficult to get in for dinner on weekends, so book ahead. The restaurant has had a makeover and now has beaut opening windows on the street and some sidewalk tables and chairs. It has a more modern french feel to the eating area. The tables are close and it can be a little noisy when full, especially if you have the couple from hell next to you.
The service is impeccable with the hosts friendly and relaxed, happy to explain the menu and the specials.
The menu has not changed much from before, but the dishes are revamped but still classic French. The Bouillabaisse has hefty servings of fish and has a light delicate sauce. The Confit of Duck with lentils was tender with a surprising zesty touch. Dessert was the highlight with the Cafe Gourmand giving a taste of 3 desserts with a coffee. The Creme Brulee is simply not to be missed.
It is no longer BYO but there is an extensive wine list, and house wine by the carafe.

Bouillabaisse
Confit of Duck
Just revisited in January 2013 and the food is still of a consistent high standard. Avalon has plenty of restaurants but Bistro Boulevard is the best. The atmosphere on a summers night is relaxed and the service is friendly and attentive. We sat here all night and felt so comfortable, even though passersby were being turned away. Here is the Cafe Gourmand which is a taste of the dessert menu along with a coffee. Delicious!

Le Boulevarde
Avalon's premier French restaurant.
It has been in Avalon for yonks - first opened in 1973, and is run by Caroline and Alain Pointeaux, a husband and wife team who know what good food and service means. The decor hasn't changed in a while but it is quiet and comfortable and makes you feel like home. Everything runs like clockwork from the immediate friendly greeting to the fond farewell.
The food is delicious: Pate and snails for starter then Coq au vin, duck confit, steak frite. They also have a good selection of wines and desserts.
Cost for 5: $200
Rating: Ferrari
PS The restaurant is closing in March 2012 but is reopening as Bistro Boulevard. The site will remain in the family to be run as a bistro by the Pointeaux’s daughter and son-in-law and will reopen in April 2012.
